Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
